Industry Involvement

Internet Identity is actively involved in the anti-phishing industry community.  The company holds leadership positions in several industry groups to which we donate hundreds of hours of work in an effort to better the community's understanding of phishing and to enhance the cooperation among the many organizations that both battle phishing and are victimized by it.

The company strongly encourages our customers, our partners and our competitors to become involved in these groups as appropriate.  Only by working together can we make the crime of phishing less attractive for criminals and less damaging for the public.

Internet Identity supports the following organizations:

The organization provides a forum to discuss phishing issues and evaluations of potential technology solutions, and access to a centralized repository of phishing attacks. The APWG has over 3,000 members representing over 1,700 organizations, including financial institutions, online retailers, ISPs, the law enforcement community, security solutions providers and research institutions.

Internet Identity has been actively involved in the APWG since 2004 when we authored the first APWG white paper on anti-phishing best practices.  Currently, Internet Identity's president, Rod Rasmussen, serves as the co-chair of the APWG's Internet Policy Committee.   Rasmussen also serves as the APWG liaison to ICANN, representing the APWG at ICANN's meetings around the world.

CUISPA is a progressive national association of IT professionals, from both large and small credit unions, dedicated to improving IT risk throughout the industry. From the industry’s largest credit union to some of the smallest, CUISPA’s membership encompasses a broad range of knowledge, expertise, and support.

Digital PhishNet (DPN) www.digitalphishnet.org

Digital PhishNet (DPN) was established in 2004 as a collaborative enforcement operation to unite industry leaders in technology, banking, financial services and online retail services with law enforcement to combat "phishing," a destructive and increasing form of fraud and identity theft.  DPN is focused on assisting criminal law enforcement in identifying and prosecuting those responsible for committing crimes through phishing. DPN establishes a single, unified line of communication between industry and law enforcement, so critical data to fight phishing can be compiled and provided to law enforcement in real time. Active members include ISPs, online auction sites, financial institutions, law enforcement (which includes participation from FBI, Secret Service, US Postal Inspection Service, Federal Trade Commission and a number of Electronic Task Forces), along with many others around the globe that are committed to phishing enforcement.

Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) www.icann.org

The mission of The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is to coordinate, at the overall level, the global Internet's systems of unique identifiers, and in particular to ensure the stable and secure operation of the Internet's unique identifier systems.  ICANN is responsible for managing and coordinating the Domain Name System (DNS) to ensure that every address is unique and that all users of the Internet can find all valid addresses. It does this by overseeing the distribution of unique IP addresses and domain names. It also ensures that each domain name maps to the correct IP address. ICANN is also responsible for accrediting the domain name registrars.
