Internet Identity released its Phishing Trends Report: An Analysis of Financial Fraud Threats for First Quarter 2010.
Highlights of the report include:
• Text-to-phone phish attacks down 62% from Q4 to Q1
o Non-branded attacks all but gone
o Credit unions represented 83% of unique brands targeted
o High volume attacks focused on money center banks
• Avalanche attack volume decline, tactics change
o Volume in March 90% less than in January
o Focus shifted to distributing Zeus malware
• Top countries hosting non-Avalanche phishing attacks
o US hosted 46%
o France, Germany, Russia and South Korea with 5% each
• Haiti devastation provides opportunity for fraudsters
o Red Cross and other charities targeted
o FBI sounded warning
• DNS hijacking attacks continued around the world
o Baidu (China), Tata Consulting (India), and whois.com (US) attacked
o Baidu sued Register.com to establish blame
