Cybercrime continues to be a growing problem for businesses and consumers.  As legitimate uses have become more diversified and sophisticated, so has cybercrime.  What started out in 1996 as simple social engineering to steal passwords for AOL accounts so hackers could get free connectivity has grown and expanded into a multi-billion dollar industry that includes identity theft, monetary theft, money laundering, social and personal scams, extortion, industrial espionage, state-sponsored espionage, and more.  The criminals' techniques include social engineering, malicious software, infrastructure hijacking, denial of service, and more, all carried out using enormous botnet armies whose scale can overwhelm most traditional defenses.
